When using image sequences it would be nice to have the option to select which number in the sequence to start from. For example if you have an image sequence ranging from sequence-01.jpg to sequence-30.jpg, but would like the sequence to start at sequence-15.jpg you would just enter 15 in an input field (maybe after checking a box to enable this option).
This can be perfectly done, by renaming your files. Let's say you have 30 files and you want to start from file 15. Then you should rename 15 - 30 in 0 - 15 and the files 0 - 15 to 30. You can even use an app like Name Mangler, Renamer or Kubee (all apps for mac).
I understand that this can be done. However, that wouldn't work in my situation. There are other ways to use image sequences other than 360-degree views or point A to point B applications. For me it would be more of a start at B, go to A or C but NOT loop from C to A. I was able to use the current way the feature works, but had to make a sequence go from A to B to C to D so the loop back to A was seamless. This required 40 images, had I been able to start at B and allow the user to go to either A or C, I could have gotten away with fewer transitions and fewer images.
We know people are using Image Sequences for other purposes then plain 360° views. E.g. interactive progress-views of PhotoShop-creations, architecture etc. But even then remain sequences and the order of sequences is defined by the naming of your files in the selected folder. So the numbering is important. This offers enough flexibility and offers the most possibilities for the vast majority of our users. Like we explained, renaming the filenames allows you to change the order of the image sequence and the number of images is not important.
