A notification is a great way to let the users know you have new content available.
Before you can start sending push notifications, make sure the required push notification information has been added for your app in the Distribution Platform.

If you activate push notifications for an existing App Store app, an update of the app will need to be submitted.
In order to send push notifications, you need to register some test devices (phones, tablets) first. The procedure to register a test device is explained below. There is a small difference between issue-based and article-based apps. The test-functionality is only available in develop builds of your app.
2.1. Registering a test-device in an article-based application
In order to allow you to test push notifications before you submit your app in the App Stores, select "Device info" from the gear-menu icon in the top right corner.
The "Register As Test Device" menu is not available in App Store builds.
At the bottom of the popup window, tap Register As Test Device to register your device as a test device.

If you've activated the Hamburger Menu in your app, you can find the Gear Menu in the bottom right corner of that Hamburger Menu:
2.2. Registering a test-device in an issue-based app (legacy)
In order to allow you to test push notifications before you submit your app in the App Stores, select "Device info" from the sidebar hamburger-menu icon in the top left corner.
The "Device info…" menu is not available in App Store builds.
At the bottom of the popup window, tap "Register" to register your device as a test device.
After tapping "Register" you will be able to select the device for testing in the Twixl Distribution Platform.
Sending Push Notifications is done on our Twixl Distribution Platform from within your app menu (both for issue-based and article-based apps).
When you want to send Push Notifications, you have a few options available. Let's explain them here:
- Message: Of course you want to include a Message in your Push Notification. This Message can include 140 Characters
Link: You can attach a
tp-collectionurl scheme. This way, when readers tap on the Push Notification, they will be redirected to the right Collection or Content Item. For more info, see Custom URL Schemes for article-based apps
- Send At: You can schedule a Push Notification. This way, a Push Notification can be sent out a chosen time in the future.
Which Devices: You can target specific kinds of devices. At this moment we support the following segments:
- All device(s): Will send the Push Notification to all registered device(s).
- All iOS devices(s): Will send the Push Notification to all registered iOS device(s).
- All Android device(s): Will send the Push Notification to all registered Android device(s).
- Specific test device(s): Here you can select specific Test Devices as a target for your Push Notification. Fore more info, see Testing
You will only be able to start sending notifications, when your app has been installed and opened on at least 1 device. Also note that you can only send 1 push notification per 24 hours to a Newsstand app in the App Store. Other apps do not have this limitation.
