Creating a backup of your Twixl Configuration

Twixl Support Team Updated: - Created :

Creating a backup or transferring a build setting

Build settings contain the artwork used in your publications, along with the provisioning profiles, web resources for kiosk apps.

Twixl build settings are stored at ~/Library/Application Support/Twixl Publisher/Build Settings/

If you want to backup a build setting, or share it with a colleague, just navigate to that folder by control-clicking on the setting name, and then revealing the setting in the Finder.

Creating a backup of your complete Twixl configuration

If you want to backup the combination of Certificates, Private Keys and Build Settings, just select "Export Developer Identity…" from the Tools menu in the Twixl Publisher OS X app.

This is also the preferred method if you are migrating to a new machine, or need to share the same settings with a co-worker.

    Restoring

    • To restore a .buildsetting, simply double-click it. The Twixl Publisher macOS app will open and import the file automatically.
    • To restore your .p12-file, double-click it. The Keychain Access app will open and entering the password you chose, it will let you add the certificate and private key combo to your Keychain.

Synchronizing your build settings with Dropbox

If you are familiar with using the Terminal on OS X, here's a little trick that allows you to synchronize your build setting folder with Dropbox, and make it available on multiple Macs.

    1. First, go to the Twixl Publisher folder in Application Support: /Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Twixl Publisher/ - you can use the Finder's Go to the folder: menu option do find this folder, or otherwise hold down the ‘alt’ key while selecting the Go menu, and the Home Library will become available in the menu.
    2. Now, move the folder "Build Settings" to a convenient location in your Dropbox, e.g. Dropbox/Apps/Twixl Publisher/ or any folder you prefer, and your build settings will start syncing.
    3. In Terminal, then perform the following command (replace [username] with your own home directory name, and optionally change the Dropbox path):
    ln -s /Users/[username]/Dropbox/Apps/Twixl\ Publisher/Build\ Settings /Users/[username]/Library/Application\ Support/Twixl\ Publisher/

This will create what is called a "symbolic link" in the Twixl Publisher Application Support folder that will refer to the Build Settings folder in Dropbox, You can then repeat the same process of creating a symbolic link on different machines.

This way you are able to keep Build Settings in sync across devices.
